    Hi Again,

I’m selling short live courses around the world.

Ideally each course would be a single product.

    For example:

Course Product 1: “How Penguins Raise the Kids” (2hrs)
Course Product 2: “How Penguins Fly” (2hrs)

I offer Course Product 1 weekly, and Course Product 2 monthly. Until now, I’ve just used the same product every week or month. But I need to add stock/inventory control (6 penguins in a course. Have you tried to deal with 6 inquisitive penguins at the same time? Trust me 6 is the limit for a reasonable course!) I only know how to put the stock/inventory limit on a product for your plugin, so to limit it for each instance of the course, I’d have to create (at least) 1 product for each course. That quickly becomes an admin challenge (managing all the wordpress pages and admin entries is like looking after a large colony of penguins!)

Can you suggest a way to tie inventory to product variations where the variations would be the date of the course. That would be pretty perfect and solve this issue.

I might need to move to a Learning Management System (LMS) to support this, but I don’t need the rest of the complexity that comes with an LMS yet. So I hope there is a way to do this with Stripe Payment.

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers,
    Steve

    Hi again Steve.

I’m not an expert on penguins, but I know for sure they don’t fly… well, actually, they do, but under water only 😉

As I understand, variations having some kind of stock control should resolve the difficulties you’re experiencing in your use-case scenario, am I correct?

    Hi Alexander,

    > well, actually, they do, but under water only 😉

Ahhh. I see you’ve already taken the course!

Yes, I that’s correct. an additional quantity field on the variation would be useful. As I think about it more I’lll need to indicate the product variation on the shortcode, so the user isn’t prompted to choose a variation (the variation is an internal matter). I am not looking at your documentation at this moment so I don’t remember if you can already indicate variations in the shortcode.

Thanks for your quick and helpful replies.

    Cheers,

You cannot use shortcode parameters to handle variations at the moment. Can’t promise this functionality to be implemented anytime soon as well.

Stock control for variations is in to-do list, though can’t give you any ETA either. I will bump the ticket in our inner system regarding this matter though.

    Hiè

Thanks again for your quick responses. And, thanks for bumping this up your to do list.

Unfortunately, I don’t see how I can use product variations if they are’t selectable by short-code. I’m sorry, I didn’t really think that through before.

My users select the variation before they get to stripe payment button. If I can build the button “programatically” with the shortcode (or something else like a hook), this would work great. But if I can’t select the variation i can’t really use it.

The tax fix you added for me solves half my problem though, so for now I can manage things on the product level. Just wanted you to know that as far as priorities go, you don’t have to bump one feature up for me until the other feature is also up.

    Cheers,
    Steve

BTW, if any of tis is a feature in your paid plugin, please let me know. I should be able to purchase the paid plugin.
