Product Variations

Hello,

I am struggling with handling large amount of variations on our website.
What we are trying to accomplish is to display all possible product variations from our suppliers.

As an example, an upholstered chair can have various options and can be upholstered in various different fabric groups.

In order to limit the number of variations and split the product attributes in two groups – price dependent and price independent variables (ie. exact fabric choice within a selected fabric group).

The price independent variables are read from a seperate content type and I followed this excellent article from Remi Corson to link the custom field to the variations and to the orders page:

The query is rather slow and I am seeking for a faster or a better approach is there is any.

Any help would be much appreciated to handle 100000+ products with variation numbers in the 1000s.
