Yes it will work with variations, but right now it will only display the discounted price for variations (original price strike out won’t be displayed for variable products).
Same for me…
We are trying discounts with a product with different variations, but do not apply in the cart. It only works with multiple units of the same variation (example color).

You can set quantity discount (discount on total cart quantity), variable products are considered as separate items on cart, discount on product quantity will not work on this case.
