In the Marketing section, under Promotional Codes, you can define a discount code for the shopping cart based on criteria such as price, product category, etc.
I want to create a code that gives a 15% discount for the purchase of 6 products from a specific category. Currently, the software doesn’t count the number of items in the cart; it only manages a minimum/maximum amount and categories.
It’s unbelievable that such a feature is missing in e-commerce software.

Note: This is similar to the lack of basic GTIN/EAN13 fields!

    Hi @marcusterribilis,

I understand your frustration about needing quantity-based discounts for specific categories. The good news is that WooCommerce actually does support this functionality, but it requires the right extension to unlock these advanced coupon features.

For creating a discount code that gives 15% off when purchasing 6 products from a specific category, you’ll need the Smart Coupons extension. This powerful extension extends WooCommerce’s core coupon functionality to include quantity-based restrictions.

Here’s how you can set this up with Smart Coupons:

    • Go to Marketing → Coupons in your WP Admin
    • Create a new coupon with 15% percentage discount
    • In the Usage Restrictions tab, select your specific product category
    • Under Smart Coupons Restrictions, select “Validate quantity of” and choose either:
      • “Product” (for 6 items from that specific category)
      • Set minimum quantity to 6

This will create exactly what you’re looking for: a coupon that only applies when customers have 6 or more products from your specified category in their cart.

The Smart Coupons extension supports complex quantity-based discount scenarios like “Buy 5 items and get 10% off” or “Apply 15% off coupon only when there are five T-shirts in the cart.”

I hope that helps. Let us know if you need anything else.

OK, that sounds good, but this plugin is expensive!
    Thanks for the reply.

    Hi @marcusterribilis,

I’m glad to hear my colleague’s response was helpful. I understand that urgent needs like this can come up unexpectedly, making the cost feel higher than planned. However, you can take advantage of discounts of up to 40% on WooCommerce.com products until December 2. You can find more details here: https://woocommerce.com/fr/products
