Hello @ritajoc, thank you for your question!

Please navigate to Membership 2 > Add-ons, and activate “Category Protection” add-on:

Then, go to Membership 2 > Protection rules > Categories and modify access for each category:

For each category, you can add more than one membership.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

    Cheers,
    Nastia

Thanks Nastia, these are the steps I took; however, when I tested one of the selected categories to be protected, it worked at first, but then it stop working. In other words, the entire blog post is displayed to a nonmember. Thanks again.

    Hello Rita,

That blog post category is protected by only one membership – or maybe its protected with default membership also? By non member you mean that user is registered but its not member of any membership or its visible for vistors (non logged in users)?
Can you check if by any chance you don’t have “Individual Posts” add-on enabled? Those two add-ons should not be used at the same moment.

I tested now on my site and I can’t replicate issue 🙁 – protecting of category and posts within category works fine.

If it was working and then stopped – did you by any chance changed theme or added/updated plugin?
Could you run quick conflict test and change theme to one of the defaults one (like twentyseventeen) and disable all other plugins to see if this will help?

    kind regards,

    Hi Kasia,

We have three memberships and I added them all to a particular category; for example, five-fold leaders. When I view a blog post within that category as a logged-out user, the entire post is visible. I did not change the theme or plugins. As I mentioned, when I first set it up, it worked when I was logged out. Here is the link to a blog post with a category of five-fold leaders: Are you losing it at work? This is just one of the categories we want to protect. I’m just using five-folder leaders as an example.

Can you please let me know if you can see the entire post? I haven’t researched yet if the plugins are the culprit.

I don’t have the Individual Posts Add-on activated.

By the term “nonmember” I’m speaking of site visitors who are not registered as a user on my client’s website.

    Hello ritajoc,

Can you please check if that post is not also added to another non-protected category? That would explain why its not protected. If both a “protected” and a “nonprotected” category are associated with a post, the “unprotected” wins.
There was feature request for changing that logic, but I can’t give any ETA when it would be implemented in plugin I’m afraid 🙁

    kind regards,
    Kasia

Hi Kasia, that solves the issue. The post is also added to non-protected categories. I think protecting individual posts may work better being this is the case with this plugin. Thank you very much for your assistance.
