This feature can not be hidden, we are thinking to make this flexible in near future release or add an option so that admin can disable.
The public/private feature: User A can not see user B’s private list’s bookmark. This plugin has buddypress intgeration in pro addon and one user can other user’s bookmark. in core version also this can be achieved, suppose the page the bookmark posts shortcode has is linked with any user’s id like this ?userid=user_id_here then when that url is visited by a user who is not owner of the userid can see other people’s bookmark and can not see bookmarks from private category.

I agree with bellawhite, a “hide” to make Bookmarks private only would be good.
(even if it is a patch in a .php file)

Hi @scotweb I will bring the changes so that admin can decide to make only public, only private or hide the both private and public, or kind of making default all private or all public.

No progress yet but we will not disable this feature, we will implement default public or private which is not default public. another idea we have don’t display the private public choice but auto set private or public as optional. we have the idea in queue in implementation.
