    Hello,
    I have had a request for subscribing to my blog via email notification and found your plugin to be the closest to what I need. I have had the default (?) WP Subscribe link in my navigation and assume that there are some people who subscribe via RSS. I want the email subscription feature to be that simple – I don’t want to use the emails to start a newsletter list or in any way have to maintain a new database or have to send any mail manually, so I think I do NOT want any Registered Users, only Public Subscribers. Is there a way to disable the registration option? And if I go only the Public subscribers route, will I have to install some sort of protection from getting spammed with subscriptions? Thanks,
    Cari

  • @cari,

    Registered users come from the core WordPress code. To enable or disable registration go to Settings->General and look for the Membership heading, then check or uncheck the box where it says “Anyone can register”.

    Thank you so much! I have that disabled already, just didn’t know if Subscribe2 had its own override for that setting. Will Akismet handle the spam I will get from public subscribers? I saw in this forum you recommended a plugin called Bad Behavior; I’m trying to keep my plugins streamlined and at a minimum. Guess I’ll install and see what happens, and if I need it, I’ll install it, or do you recommend another plugin now?

    Appreciate the speedy response!

    @cari,

    Bad Behaviour is great for stopping ‘bots. I always use it, it’s very light weight on the server. Akismet is good for comments but not email addresses.

    Thank you, so good to know! I’ll give it a try.
