    Hello all,

I’m looking for some clarification on how push notifications behave when the recipient doesn’t immediately interact with them.

If we send a notification and the user doesn’t open their browser at all after it’s delivered, does the message persist in any way?

Is it stored and shown later when they open the browser, or is it discarded if not seen right away?

Trying to figure out how reliable the user experience is in scenarios where engagement is delayed.

    Hi @frbaguetix,

Thanks for your question — understanding how push notifications behave behind the scenes is key to making the most of them.

    Here’s how it works:

    • The browser must be opened for the push notification to be delivered.
    • After the push is sent, Omnisend monitors the recipient’s browser. The moment it’s opened, the push notification is delivered.
    • If the recipient does not open their browser within 24 hours after the push has been sent, the notification will expire and will not be shown.
    • The Time-To-Live (TTL) for push notifications can’t be edited. This behavior is the same for both campaigns and automations.

This way, you can rely on push notifications reaching your customers when they’re active, while avoiding stale or outdated messages being shown later. If anything about this still feels unclear, please let us know — we’ll be happy to walk you through it.
