Hi there, we are considering this plugin for managing our website content expiry reminders on our multisites. Our website developers recommended the Better Notifications plugin but could I run the following questions by you to affirm if this would be a good fit for our requirements please?

    – This plugin looks tailored to ‘Posts’ rather than ‘Pages’ if this makes a difference?

    – This plugin looks more catered towards instant announcements, rather than reminders that need to be actioned on a future date. How is the email notification triggered?

    – Can the list of content reminders be ordered by date they need to be actioned by?

    – Can the notification categories be amended?

I’ve attached a screen capture of current content expiry reminders we’ve set on Umbraco to show the kind of categories we set reminders for:

    Hi @cvalone,
    Thanks for your message.

    • BNFW works with post, pages, and custom post types. If you’re using pages, you should be good.
    • There is a Reminders add-on but not sure if it’ll meet your requirements. You can read more about it here: https://betternotificationsforwp.com/downloads/update-reminder/
    • The list of available notifications is broken down into sections, such as WordPress Defaults, Transactional, Posts, Pages, etc. There are some filters you may be able to use to remove some notifications if you don’t want to see this but this would be a job for a developer. You can find details about the available filters here: https://betternotificationsforwp.com/documentation/actions-and-filters/
    • If you’re looking to set-up email notifications that go out in the future, you may find something like Mailchimp an alternative solution.

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you so much for getting back to me.

I think using Mailchimp/CRM would only make sense if we wanted to email subscribers/site users to our content – not as reminders to the WordPress users themselves. We want to use this feature to notify colleagues within our internal Website Team when a reminder is due.

This article about Reminders looks promising, but what is not clear is how users are notified to publish a Post/Page through this plugin, if not by email? Do they need to login to the CMS to be notified please?

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

    Hi @cvalone,
    No problem.

How will the ‘future reminders’ be set-up? Are you looking to set a date on a post/page/custom post type and for a notification to out on that date or for something to occur after a certain amount of time has passed? E.g. a post hasn’t been updated for 2-weeks.

    Thanks @voltronik

The former option (set a date on a post/page/custom post type and for a notification to out on that date)

E.g. When adding the time-sensitive content in the first instance, I would set a website content expiry reminder to remove Easter Sunday Lunch on this Page that would also trigger a notification to our Website Team (users) on 10th April:

Another example, setting a similar reminder to unpublish this Valentines Day Offer Page and remove tile from main page on 15th February:

    Hi @cvalone,
    Thanks for clarifying.

Unfortunately BNFW or the Reminders add-on wouldn’t be able to do this (send an email out on a dat specified). You’d most likely be looking at custom coding something or using a 3rd party service for this.

    Sorry I can’t help more.
