Hi!
Thanks for your post and sorry for the trouble!
The Excel button tries to convert the HTML table to a the XLSX format, which essentially is a very complex compilation of XML files inside a ZIP archive.
Unfortunately though, as that XML scheme is very complex, with many dependencies between the files, it’s currently not possible to also export clickable links, images , or more complex things from a table to an Excel file. So, depending on you exact needs for those downloadable Excel files, this button might not be helpful. I’m really sorry for not having better news here.
Best wishes,
Tobias
I see, thank you for your response Tobias!
If I could ask one additional question about another feature of TablePress. When importing into a table using a google sheet URL, would it be possible to pre-define the range that gets imported? I just want to know if there is a way to automate this process so that I do not have to delete metadata that are on the same tab as the data I want to display on the site.
Hi,
sure, thanks for your follow-up question!
No, sorry, it’s not possible to pre-define which ranges of the Google Sheet should be imported. It will always be the full sheet.
However, you can mark rows and columns as “hidden” on a table’s “Edit” screen, so that these will be shown on the “Edit” screen but not to site visitors. So, effectively, you will have the same output as if you were importing on a range 🙂
Best wishes,
Tobias
