I am trying to create a page that I absolutely do not want accessed by anyone unless they click on the link sent to them via email for signing up for the newsletter. Therefore, I created a post with the [pdb_record] and set that particular post to “Private” so that it does not show up as a blog post.

I went to settings, used the post ID option from the drop down menu, and changed the number to reflect the ID number of the private posting I created with the [pdb_record} code.

I signed up for my newsletter using two different email addresses. Once I received the emails and clicked on the link containing the [pdb_record] code I get a “page not found” message at my webpage.

I tried the same thing using a page set to private (instead of a post) and got the same “page not found” message. Any idea if this problem has to do with the page being set to private? If so, is there another option I can use to create a page that will not show up anywhere on my site and is only accessible via the email sent to the people who sign up for the newsletter?

Also, I am currently using the latest version of WordPress (3.5; not 3.4.2). Forgot to update this info in my first posting.

You should read up on what a “private” post is…it’s probably not what you want.

I wouldn’t worry about the private record page being accessible to any one but the person with the link. It certainly wont show up in menus, and even if the page the record is on shows up in a menu, it won’t show the record without the private ID code. I discuss this in the FAQ. For most purposes, that private link will be secure enough.

Thanks again. I changed it from private and the form is showing again. I also removed the title from the post to try to make it as invisible as possible. Not too concerned about others seeing the post; just trying to keep people from clicking on it, seeing nothing, and then are like “hey, what’s this supposed to be?”.

If anything, there is a plugin that allows you to exlude pages and help them be more “invisible”:

Going to try it out tonight when I get home.
