• Hi,

A client of mine already has a website that is using WordPress. It’s using an old theme that they originally liked and used.

We found a new theme that she likes and now wants to use this one.

I want to install the new one and transfer all the old content onto the new one. So all the same content and pics just a new look and feel.

How would I go about doing this the quickest and most proficient way? I can’t just install the new one without erasing her old content and pages, can I?

What should I do here? Thanks!

  • Changing themes does not normally change the content (UNLESS someone has hard-coded custom changes into the old theme). Content is stored in the database. While layout, options, and features may differ in the new theme (you may need to make changes in the visual presentation options from your dashboard and -or- theme option pages), changing themes should not change any of the content. Only the presentation of the content.

    1) always make a complete backup before any site changes
    2) if you can’t confidently undo a change, don’t be the one that makes it

That makes so much sense what you just said. And I’m making a backup right now. Thanks for the info! Love WordPress, love this forum and love the people on it 🙂

You’re welcome. I hope it all goes smoothly!
