Using this great plugin of yours (kudos!) and since I never use the XML-RPC feature of WordPress I generally keep it disabled.

However a particular Theme a client insists on requires Jetpack to be activated, so it is, but when I tick the checkbox in this plugin (Wordfence Login Security) to disable XML-RPC entirely, I get this error notice from Jetpack…..I *think* I can safely ignore it but wondering if you have an opinion or suggestion?

XML-RPC authentication is disabled. Jetpack is currently active and requires XML-RPC authentication to work correctly.

    Hi @trisham

Glad to hear that you are enjoying the plugin.

As far as I am aware, most of Jetpack’s features rely on a connection to a WordPress.com account to work, and that connection uses the XML-RPC interface. Without a connection to a WordPress.com account, no feature that relies on that connection will work properly.

Therefore you will need to allow the use of the XML-RPC interface if you need to use the Jetpack features that require the use of the XML-RPC interface.

Thank you, what’s really odd is that the Theme seems to *only* use Jetpack to insert the logo and add a crazy animation effect (not something I care for but the client really likes it). When I disable Jetpack, the logo disappears. Seems like a very odd way to build a Theme, but it’s one of WP/Jetpack’s own Themes. Harrumph.

We’re not using any other feature of Jetpack and don’t care at all about any connection to WordPress.com, it’s a self-hosted site…..so I still think it’s likely okay to ignore that error. Before I shut down XML-RPC it was getting hit with hundreds of bot attacks daily…

    Hi @trisham

    Thank you for the update.

In your case, it does sound like you can disable access to the XML-RPC interface, but you could check with the theme author to be sure.

Will do, and thanks again. 🙂
