Questions about Search widget

I have a couple of customization questions about the Search widget:

1) Can the taxonomy dropdowns be sorted manually? They appear to be sorted by count, but I’d rather sort them by name. I’m just not seeing a way to do that.

2) Is it possible for a specific search box to have checkboxes instead of a dropdown? That is, could someone search for properties in two cities at once via checkboxes, rather than a dropdown select for one, then a separate search for the other?
