    Hello,

I am maintaining a private site under WordPress 6.2with post SMTP plugin.

Since this morning my site is attacked wihtout success but each time an attack is detected a mail is sent to the administrator email which is like [email protected]. The sender as defined into SMTP plugin parameter is like [email protected]. Thus, the sender is not a GMAIL account.

I just received a mail with the subject : “Erreur e-mail Post SMTP” saying in the body :

“You have exceeded the limit of 200 messages per hour and per account. Please, re-try later. Closing connection, please refrain from sending too many mails”

The problem is that when I look at the log of post SMTP, only 11 messages have been sent today.

I checked my provider and there is no alarm on my account around quotas or other..

Have you any idea about what happens really? UIs it a problem at Post Smtp Level?

    Thanks in advance

    Regards

  • Hi @mezianedavincipotes,

I hope you are doing well.

You can try sending a test email write after getting a quota exceed email and checking your email logs to see whether the log has been generated or not, and whether you receive that test email or not.

    Hi smakazmi15

It is strange, for example, I received a mail at 11:25 saying the quota is exceeded and another mail “normal” saying that someone had tried to enter on my site at the same time

Checking the mail log just now, I’m seeing that the text “5.7.0 Mail quota exceeded for [email protected]: You have exceeded the limit of 200 messages per hour and per account. Please, re-try later. Closing connection, please refrain from sending too many mails” appears into the column “Statut” and the text “Not found, check status column for more info.” into the column “solution” and all of this for a mail which has been correctly sent!

I must say that I ‘m a little lost here.

    Hi @mezianedavincipotes ,

    Thanks for sharing further information.

The issue you’re seeing is rather odd but may be a coincidence in timing. Messages like the error you are seeing don’t come from POST SMTP, but rather the SMTP host you’re connected to. The Logged response is the one POST SMTP receives from your SMTP host.

You should reach out to them about this false error, as they may be able to track the reason and resolve this issue.

Still, do let us know if there is anything we can help you with from our end.

    Thanks and regards,

    Hi,

    Thank you for your message… You’re right is very strange as mails seem to be delivered without problem. This morning more than 40 have been sent to mail gmail account from my private domain and didn’t receive any error message form gmail or my provider…;

I asked to my provider support and waintin for their answer…

If I get one I will post here…

    Best regards

@mezianedavincipotes Sure, thanks for the update.

    Hi,

after some delay I’ve received the answer from my provider. it appears that PostSMTP is not the cause of the problem.

In fact my web server is on a shared server (physically). This means that I’m sharing resources of this server with other web servers and there is a global mail quota which applies to all. This means that if another web server send to much mails my web server can exceed this gobal quota when it sends it’s own mails.

Now II have to find a solution to not be in this global quota (paid solution with my current provider or external mail services).

    Regards
