Just spent several hours trying to set up a site on localhost using xampp on a windows machine to export the static site to a local directory. I had naively copy/pasted the path to the local directory out of windows explorer, which included quotation marks. After several hours trying to figure out why the diagnostic page said it couldn’t write to the local directory when I am quite sure the permissions are correct, I removed the quotes around the path and it worked. If I go the local directory setting and put in “C:\” and save changes, the diagnostics page says it can’t write to the directory “C:\”/ but if I go to the settings page and use C:\ as the local directory then the diagnostics page says it can write to the directory C:/

    Is this a bug?

    Hey @shortda,

    thanks for your report.

Sadly, XAMPP is one of the worst choices to use Simply Static as it misses several features for using it to run static exports with Simply Static.

That’s why I also mention that in the description of the plugin.

You may want to have a look at the documentation here: https://patrickposner.dev/docs/simply-static/problems-with-local-development

    Best regards,
    Patrick

I’ve set up LocalWP and I have the same problem – if I put quotes around the Local Directory path on the settings page then the diagnostics page says it can’t write to the local directory.

    Hey @shortda,

    thanks for the follow-up!

It doesn’t have converted the path for you?
I add that as an issue now and will look closely into that.

    Thanks for bringing this up!
