We have noticed today that our slider ads are not being randomized even though the checkbox for “Display ads in the slider in a random order” is checked.

  • Hey joanlaura404

    Thanks for reaching out.

Can you please send me a link to the page showing the reported behavior?

While using the latest version of the Slider 2.0.1 and Advanced Ads 2.0.5 I was unable to reproduce the reported behavior.

You can download the latest version of the Slider add-on from your account or after registering for our newsletter.

    Best regards,
    Henning

Confirmed Advanced Ads – 2.0.5, Ads Pro – 3.0.3, and Slider 2.0.1 installed

    Test page here https://aberdeeninsider.com/test-page-ad/

In this Ad Group, we have it set to Slider and Random Order is checked. The group includes 3 ads from Schwab Audiology that are different images and they are showing one right after another. The slider repeats the slides in the same order.

The ad order repeats: bourbon, hazel, climate, insurance, schwab, schwab, schwab

    Hey joanlaura404

Thank you for the details and the test page.

On my end, the ads are rotating, and the slider starts with a different ad on every page load. Besides the three “schwab” ads which apparently are coming at the end of each cycle.

Can you please check if these ads got any specific differences from the other ads in this group, like a different weight?

    Best regards,
    Henning

Yeah, the 3 schwab ads were set to weight 3 and the rest are left at 10. The cycle order does change when the page is loaded but it seems all 3 schwab ads are still showing in each loop so they aren’t getting lower weights.

The real version of this ad placement is on the homepage in the middle (I made a copy for the test page), we turned the slider off and switched it do just random refresh and this seems to be using the weights correctly and the order doesn’t seem to loop and I see the schwab ads less.

    Hey joanlaura404

This is actually the awaited behavior. You can use the slider either random or in a specific order represented in the ad weight.

If you want the rotation randomized based on the ad weight, you choose the correct alternative using the refresh on the same spot option.

I’ll make sure the slider behavior is also represented in the manual.

If you have further questions regarding Advanced Ads, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me again.

    Best regards,
    Henning

Thanks for clearing that up, I’ll make sure our Ad people know that they can only use slider when the ads are equal weighted in the future 🙂
