    Hi all

I’ve been having a pretty random problem with a couple of my WordPress sites.

With some sites, the homepage is working fine, but then all other pages go to a 404. Even entering site.com/admin goes to a 404, you HAVE to type out site.com/wp-login.php.
The problem is resolved by going to Settings -> Permalinks and clicking Save without making any changes to the permalink structure. Magically all pages work fine again.

Has anybody else had this problem, and if so how do I prevent it from happening?

As I said, the error strikes randomly and often happens on sites where we haven’t made any changes in quite some time.

  • Hello philmanners42,

I have seen this type of issue caused by custom .htaccess coding. I recommend reviewing your .htaccess file for anything that looks unusual. You can view the default WordPress .htaccess rules here:

    Hope this helps,
