    Hi Yannick!

In Version 5.9.15.7, I’ve been importing using the file template linked from Library Settings. So, other than Hits, I can’t lose any link data.

With this in mind, do you have tips on how to save my Hits history prior to attempting the upgrade? Or, should I hedge my bets and wait until 6.1 (?) to make the change?

Thank you for all of your hard work in debugging the new version so quickly. I look forward to continuing to support your work!

    Cheers,
    Emily @ BuyingAmericanBlog.com

Things have gotten quite stable in past week.

The main things that you can do is backup your WordPress MySQL site database. That being said, the upgrade process actually copies all of old link data into its new Custom Post Type based format.

You can also backup the files from the old version. If anything does not look right and you need to be back up and running asap, restore the old version and you should be back to normal right away.

Even if there is an issue with that conversion, you can easily re-run it using the Re-import button that can be found under the General Options section of the Link Library menu area.

Once all links are properly converted to the new format, the only manual intervention you should have to do is to update category IDs in shortcodes, if you were specifying any category override. Otherwise, everything should look as it did before.

If you have minor issues that do not warrant rolling back to previous version, post them here and I will get to them as soon as possible. I mainly have time to address issues between 7 and 9pm, Eastern Daylight Savings time.

Let me know how things go.

By using the built-in upgrade progress, you will not lose any data. You will also preserve all hit data.

Thanks Yannick! This is very helpful. I’ll follow these instructions this week. I’ll probably do the upgrade Saturday so I have time to re-tweak after upgrade. THANK YOU for the guidance!
