It looks like the plugin is trying to load version 3.0. Please ensure that under “Contact > reCaptcha Version” this is set to use reCaptcha Version 2. For more information see the screenshot linked below:

If you set this and it is still not showing up – try to remove the “defer” from the script by slug “google-recaptcha” or by URL “https://www.google.com/recaptcha/api.js”.

Thank you for your message.
My reCaptcha version was already set to version 2, so this did not solve the issue. The other solution you gave I was unable to do because I am not an expert in WordPress.
However, when I manually updated to version 6 of WordPress, also an update of Contact Form 7 appeared. After having installed both these updates everything works fine now.
