Rec'd "Fatal Error" Message when activating plugin

    I am not sure about version of WP…

    I downloaded “Buddypress” to my computer; uploaded it into WP, then hit “activate plugin” and immediately got this error message, which I get when I go into wp-admin AND when I go to the site from front end.

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_user_meta() in /home/content/17/7121817/html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums.php on line 530

    Please help as soon as possible!
