I am a web developer and I have been installing UpdraftPlus on a few client sites that I support. However, in the last few days I have been experiencing issues with installing it on a new site that I have started supporting. After installing the plugin I get an error popup that says “Unexpected response:{n”:”Existing backup <span class=”\”updraft_existing_backups_count …..” (it is a lengthy message). I am not aware that UpdraftPlus has been previously installed on this site. I then uninstalled Updraft, cleared all transients, deleted it from the wp_contents table, and removed options from the wp_options table. I then reinstalled the plugin and I get the same error no matter what I do. And if I try to run a backup it just hangs. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

Can you please re-install the plugin again? You will need to delete the plugin folder in the “wp-content/plugins” folder.

Could you also try to temporarily deactivate all other plugins? Does the issue persists if you do that? I just want to check if this is not due to cache or security plugin conflict.

    Kind Regards,

Thanks for your reply Bryle – appreciated. I took over the development and support activities for the affected site last week, and in the last few days I have encountered a few more critical errors on the website (including critical errors on the theme customizer, and issues with two other plugins), so it appears that the error is far bigger than UpdraftPlus. This is leading me to the conclusion that there is a corruption of some core files on the site, and I am coming to the conclusion that the only way to resolve the issues and be confident of having a fully operational site is to rebuild the site. And to answer your question / suggestion, I have already done both of the things that you suggested, and it has made no difference to the issues. Thanks
