Recent Posts Widget Extended – code and not widget?

Hello,

ive been trying to find a plugin, with little success. Basically Im trying to find a plugin that would be similar to Recent Posts Widget Extended – but i need code, instead of a widget. I have this front page set up nicely, CSS table structure, and have a bottom right slot, perfect fo the Recent Posts links, but i cannot find any plugin thats outside of the widget set up.

is there such a thing out there? thanks alot.
