• Try this. I had a user try to register before I had the SMTP engine working on my own server where WordPress is installed. She never got the confirmation mail because it never sent. I manually set her password and she can login and post comments. However, none of the settings I apply to her account work. Like for instance every post goes into instant moderation even though I have it set to only do it the first time.

Is there a way to get her account registered correctly? I thought of just deleting her and having her re register now that the mail is working. However, I don’t knwo if her posts will stay OR if I can re associate them with her when she re registers. OR if there’s another way to get her account registered.
    Thanks for the help.

  • You must go to wp-admin/options-discussion.php
    and

      – un-tick on An administrator must always approve the comment option
      – tick on Comment author must have a previously approved comment

    I think it will work.

Thanks for you response, but that’s how I have those settings already. The trouble is this person is not actually registered I don’t think, so the admin stuff doesn’t apply itself to her. She’s like stuck between being able to comment, but also always being treated like a first time commenter. I have some computer skills generally, but am no programmer and am also new to WordPress so I’m kinda stabbing in the dark here. In my hurry to allow her to comment, I just set the password without her ever activating the account.

Unless you’ve set up some kind of confirm-by-email system on your site, the fact that she didn’t get the welcome email doesn’t really matter. If you have manually reset the password and she can log in, that’s it, she’s a registered subscriber level user.

The problem with the comments going for moderation must lie with the way you have them configured.
