Redirecting to new permalink structure

Hello,

I’m using a staging site (with Redirection installed) to test changing my site’s permalink structure from:

/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/
to
/%category%/%postname%/

After making that change, all of my old permalinks appear to be automatically redirected to the new permalink structure that includes the category name. Is Redirection automatically detected the change to my permalink structure and redirecting? If so, where do I view the rule that has been applied?

Also, if Redirection is automatically handling the permalink change, do I still need to create a regexp to ensure that links to the old URLs are properly redirected to the new target? I’m a little unclear on how to create such a regexp to correctly include the category name, but it’d be nice not to have to create a unique rule for every post on my site.
