• I’ve had some users registered on my website, but when showing a friend apparently I don’t have a Registration Page, at least one that’s showing. I’ve had a handful of users registering but the odd thing is I have no idea how, without a visible Registration Page.

Is there any way I can add the page where it is easily accessible or am I missing something? I was going to log out of my account and try it that way, but I can’t even do that.

Awhile ago I did disable the Admin Menu from the top of the page if that might have anything to do with it? Thanks.

  • Depending on what the users have given, I’d say that a lot of them would be bots that trawl the internet looking for sites to register accounts with in order to do various things (check for security issues to exploit, post SPAM’y comments, etc).

Every WordPress site has a registration form available, and yours is at http://domain.com/wp-login.php?action=register so bots just add wp-login.php?action=register to whatever domains they are targeting and try from there.

Unless you actually need users to register on your site, I’d suggest that you turn off user registration. Once bots see that they can register at your site, they pass the word around and you can get quickly flooded with new “users” that are all automated accounts that won’t do anything for your site.

Thanks. I was hoping to have members register to post in my guestbook, but I guess that’s not necessary. I was actually hoping it would reduce posts from spam bots. I did disable user registration so now I’m just going to throw in Captcha. Does anybody have any idea which one to use? I just installed “Invisible reCaptcha for WordPress) (77 reviews, 5 star).

I did install one months ago which was a recommended one to throw in with the guestbook, but it just messed everything up.

I’ll use said reCaptcha for now unless anyone knows of one that’s better. Of course, if I do have any more issues with any of the reCaptcha plugins, I can post screenshots and hope they can be resolved.

***EDIT*** The plugin that doesn’t work (with my Guestbook) is “Really Simple Captcha”. When installed and activated, it makes my Guestbook not work.
