I’m trying to setup a redis server remotely for a number of wordpress application servers.

You can set the host & port of the remote server but how do you get the client to access the redis server without a username and password if it is not local?

Don’t run a remote Redis instance without a password.

My question is where do we provide the Redis VM server password in the configuration file?

That’s all documented in the readme file and on the plugin page itself. You just have to read it.

Yeah I read it, but it only provides a definition in the wp-config for the redis password, but not the ssh password to the server that holds redis, unless I’m mistaken.

WP_REDIS_PASSWORD (default: not set)

Accepts a value used to authenticate with a Redis server protected by password with the AUTH command.

Yes, correct. If you want to tunnel into another machine I’d recommend “stunnel” and forward the port to you WP instance server, then connect as if it was local.
