Remove blog date, comment bubble

Hi all – I have tried various things including plugins to no avail. Plugins remove the date but leave a small grey square in its place. If the grey square was white it’d be invisible. Can someone help to remove the date at the top of the blog post along with the small comments bubble? I am not using a child theme but perhaps I’ll need to. Thanks in advance.
