This is a question or perhaps a feature suggestion.

Being a new user of BLC, I find it very useful and easy to use. But I have one concern:

Just simply removing broken links can often work but will sometimes create strange things in a post. Say, for instance, that there is a text in a post like, for example, “follow this link for more information”, and that text is an anchor for a now broken link.

Just removing that broken link may be confusing for the visitor, since the text (“follow this link for more information”) is still there so the user may wonder “why cant’ I click here?”.

It would perhaps be better to a) remove the broken link, and then b) add some explanatory text in the post, for example, “this link is defunct and removed”. (But one does not want to do that manually on every broken link, so an automatic feature would be needed.)

Is that possible? Or could it be a possible future enhancement of BLC?

    Hi @bkwineper

    Hope you are doing fine!

Thanks for your suggestions and interest on improving our plugins. Currently it is not possible to add some custom text to the post, just the link can be edited as you described above. Adding some custom text could be a useful improvement for the link editing feature though.

I have shared this request with the Broken Link Checker team. They will review it and based on their evaluation they will add it to the development roadmap. Keep in mind this may take some considerable time since it involves several steps before releasing, such as evaluating the compatibility with other features and a thorough testing.

It is not possible to provide an ETA at this moment, but you can keep an eye on the development section in the plugin page

    We appreciate the feedback provided.

    Kind regards

    Luis
