Hi Sascha,
Please install the Jetpack plugin, then please navigate to Appearance > Customize > Content > Options, and deselect “display categories”.
To remove the “bookmark the permalink text”, please add the CSS below to the customizer in Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS:
span.permalink-bookmark {
display: none;
}
If this doesn’t work, please post a link to your site and we can take a closer look.

thanks a lot! Removing the permalink bookmrk with your CSS worked a treat!
I can’t install Jetpack as we have been told that it’s not GDPR compliant, that’s a big issue here in Germany 🙁
Seeing as your code was the only one that worked, would you have a suggestion up your sleeve for the Categories?

Please delete the CSS snippet I posted in my previous comment, then replace it with this:
span.cat-links, span.permalink-bookmark {
display: none;
}
That should hide both items. If it doesn’t, please post a link to the site.

thank you for this link! I’d sure like to use Jetpack, it makes a lot of changes so much easier. I’ll sed it on to the data security expert (read the person who has been saddled with finding out how th GDPR affects us).
