remove quantity not working for variable/variations products?

what i really need, that doesn’t exist, is a product that allows me to remove quantity boxes from specific product pages, by product (not by type, etc.) since i can’t get that, i’ve set up a variable product which should not have quantity boxes, and a simple product that should have it. removing quantity from the simple projects works fine, but it seems that the simple projects checkbox is controlling the variable project as well, the checkbox for variable projects is apparently being ignored.

please advise, i’m under some pressure to get this working.
