that may be controlled on the page level. when you go into edit a page, on the right, under the ‘page attributes’ section, is there a template option that says something like ‘full width’ or ‘no sidebar’? sometimes different themes have different templates to choose from that include a sidebar and full width option.
If your theme doesn’t have one, you can create a template yourself, or at the very least hide the sidebar from view using css. That wont make your main content full width per se but it will prevent the sidebar from being shown.

I removed the sidebar however I cannot make the content use its area. No sidebar but the is an empty area.
