If the option is not there please make sure that you have installed and activated Kirki plugin. Without it, you’ll be missing some options in the customizer.
Then please go to Appearance -> Customize -> General Settings and switch off Show Example Content? option.

That colour block should be a featured image of a page. In order to set the featured image, please see http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-add-featured-image-or-post-thumbnails-in-wordpress/.
If you don’t want to show it, please go to Appearance -> Customize -> Pages and switch off Show Featured Image ? option.
