please be caution when you deal with url structures they can seriously damage your ranking on google. a simple change can miss up lots of thing with google ranking. go read about it and watch videos to understand how it works before it makes a mess.

The category removal feature removes the word category from the category archive links. It does not change posts, pages, products or other content types.
Can you provide an example or two of a URL that is not removing category as you expect?
