Hi @allincreat,
I want to remove the Google maps link, as we plan to just say a city name/general area and then have it not clickable.
In Job Listings > Settings, you’ll find a field to enter your Google Maps API Key.
When you enter your Google Maps API Key there, WP Job Manager will retrieve location information from Google Maps based on what’s entered into the location field when a job is submitted.
Under Job Listings Setting, you’ll also find Location Display option. If this is enabled, this displays the full address of the job listing location when it is detected by Google Maps Geocoding API. If a full address is not available, it will then display whatever text the user submitted for the location.
You can disable Location Display and remove Google Maps API key, if any is entered.
Please note: there are other WP Job Manager 3rd party plugins/themes that may add Google Maps feature. If the above step doesn’t do anything, please check your theme and plugins to make sure you don’t have the additional functionality added.
I saw an old post saying to remove a line from the template file (https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/disable-geolocation-in-job-listings/#post-8818583)
That’s quite an old thread, and outdated 😀
Here are support guides with up-to-date information:
hi there, thanks for the reply and explanation of how it all works. All we really want to do is to remove the link that it adds, so when we put the location as “City name” it doesn’t have a link to that city name. Is there a way to do that?

Hi @allincreat,
Just so we’re on the same page, would you try the two things:
- Temporarily change the theme to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty and disable all other plugins except WP Job Manager. This is to rule out any other plugins or theme from adding mapping/link functionality to WP Job Manager. Health Check is a tool that can be useful for debugging, though it requires an official default theme like Twenty Seventeen. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you while you’re logged in to that session without affecting normal visitors to your site.
- Share a screenshot where you’re seeing the Google map link. The more you can share, the better! If possible, share the screenshot of the entire page where you’re seeing the issue (feel free to blur out any identifiable information).
hi there, thanks for the reply. I’ve installed the twenty seventeen theme and activated that and deactivated all the plugins and unfortunately I’m still having the location turn into a link.
(just fyi the site is in Japanese and the location is set to “Tokyo”)

If there is a non-public way for me to share the url, please let me know and happy to share any info you need.

Okay, thanks we’ll give that a try. Thanks
You’re welcome! I’ll go ahead and mark this thread as resolved.
