On reflection I think I might know what I called the file. It ended with -php because it did not seem to allow .php
I can get the site header to display using it in the format:
<site-name/login-file-name/> instead of standard <site-name/wp-admin/
It says page not found, which seems to indicate it is looking for content, not a login file
Update: I am now able to get into FTP and I can see a file wp-login.php in the root directory. I am unclear, now, what has changed and why I cannot get the login screen.
I am trying to find out if there are particular WP files I could restore to undo the file name change, but am not having any joy so far.
Is there a reliable, preferably simple, way to undo the change that is stopping me from login into the WP Control Panel?

Hi
Sorry to hear about your trouble here. Have you read this:
https://icontrolwp.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/3000000959
while you might now have FTP access just now – you should contact your web host immediately to get this back – you can use your Web Hosting control panel. I’m sure there will be a file manager / browser there that will allow you to perform the steps outlined in the article above.
Can you get in touch with your host otherwise? Point them to that article too if you can’t get it sorted. You should always have file system access to your web hosting on-hand.
Let me know how you get on.
What an idiot I am! I was copying foreoff to the site’s root directory. Also I was thinking that a file name had been changed and therefore forceoff might not help. Looks like I underestimated your ingenuity.
Thanks, I am in and Simple Firewall seems to be back to normal.
Resolved (fingers crossed)
