• Hi,

Once I publish a set of posts, and create a Category feed in PowerPress, is it possible to change the order of the posts somehow (using some post-reordering plugin) and then have the order of the posts in the feed also change?

If not, how can it be done?

    Thanks,

    – Ravi

    Hello Ravi,

Re-ordering the posts in the feed has no impact how they are sorted in Podcast apps or podcast directories. Episodic podcasts are simply ordered by the publish dated with the latest date first, just like how blog posts are reported in services like Feedly.

There are 2 ways to order episodes in iTunes, but this primarily only applies to iTunes app and directory listings.

iTunes:Order setting: You can use the iTunes order setting to set the order in which the episodes appear, with order of value 1 being at the top of the feed. More specifically, there is a feature built-into PowerPress to feature one episode always at the top of your episode list using the itunes:order option.

iTunes Season and Episode numbers: This is new for iOS 11 and only appears in the podcast iOS app (not iTunes desktop). You can not only specify season numbers but also each episode number.

iTunes Program Type: The new iOS 11 setting lets you set if the program/show is Episodic (default) or Serial based. Episodic work as normal, latest episode is first and ordered with the oldest episode last. The Serial option is new, allowing you to order the content 1-x where episode one could be published at anytime, but is always at the top. Keep in mind though that the latest season is always selected, meaning if you have 3 seasons, the subscriber will be given season 3 episode 1 by default.

All of these options are available in PowerPress Settings > Episode tab, you can enable-disable them in your Episode box as you like. The iTunes Program type is a new setting under the “iTunes” settings tab.

    Thanks,
    Angelo
