    Hello,

I have been using the plugin for a long time and I am very satisfied with it.

But, I have a little problem when it comes to replacing a file. Let me explain :

For example, when I have to replace a pdf file with the same name, I check the box “just replace” then I check the box “replace the date”. But when I click on the pdf link on the page where it is located, it is the old file that I download. After some research I found that it was my browser, chrome, which kept it in cache. I must then clear my browser cache to have the latest version of the pdf link. But it doesn’t do it all the time. At times, it works and I have the latest version of the file, it’s strange … So, I use the option “replace the file, use new file name, and update all links”. But it’s less practical because as the name suggests, it changes all the links.

Is there a way to update a file (pdf, jpg, etc.) with the same name but which allows you to download the latest version of the file without deleting your browser cache?

Thank you very much for your answer !

    Hi @epokk!

We wish that would be possible :-(. Unfortunately, the cache is something we can’t control. Any plugin could face issues with the cache at some point, so I’m afraid you should clear your cache manually (although there are extensions for your browser that can do this wiht a single click).

    Have a good one!

Ok I understand that the problem does not come from the plugin, but, is there a way (a script?) that would force the browser to download the latest version of the file ? It is very annoying for the users of my site because they do not always have the latest version of the file.

    Thank you ! 🙂

    Hi @epokk,

I understand you, but unfortunately it is not possible, as your users will always see the link to the file that you add to the page. Believe me, we’d love to be able to remotely clear the cache 😉

However, there’s a “hack”: if you take the link and add a random parameter (for example, http://example.com/yourimage.jpg?random), it forces the browser to download the uncached version of the image, because it’s in fact a new link.

We cannot do that for you because it would come into conflict with the definition of the option (just replace and do not change any link)

So you could change the link manually (adding the random parameter) in the places you’d like to.
