    Hi,

I had recently to replace an image, which can occur often depending on the site type, and for which smart little plugins were developed. Sadly, while you offer a clever option to backup original images, this feature made my média replacement impossible, even using FTP or any plugin solution. After lots of research I finally found that the culprit was simply that image backup.

While image backups is a clever option to avoid broken images issues, it should also allow their replacement all together with their multiple sizes.
Because this is a very specific feature I believe that it would be more easy to include the “replace” feature into your plugin instead of trying to be compatible with other approaches.

Let me know what you expect to do and in which time-frame so that I can accommodate accordingly.

    Regards.

    Hello.

I don’t quite understand your problem. Can you explain in more detail?

This plugin for example allows what I wanted to achieve quickly :
    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/enable-media-replace/

But whatever the way I tried, the IMG-optimiser used the image it backed-up, which resulted in erasing the replacement image with the old one.

I don’t how to explain this better. Simply try it out on a dev site by activating the IMG-backup in the IMG-optimiser options.

Hoping that it’s clear enough now.

An image backup is saved before you optimize it. This can’t interfere with the replacement in any way, unless you restore the backup after replacing the image.

Hi Artem, I had to find some time to go ahead with this issue.

Please find here some screenshots (in zip file) with their respective description of each step.

    > setup was on a fresh install with only those plugins installed (yours and https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/enable-media-replace/) and using theme Twentytwenty.

You’ll see that all works fine without your img optimization, but once done it breaks all capability of replacing any image properly.

    Waiting for your clever reply.

    Hi.

Robin creates a backup of the image before optimizing any upload to the media library.
Try disabling auto optimization on upload

Thanks for the reply, but it seems that you miss the real problem.

1/ the “optimise on upload” is quite logical to use and shouldn’t add any additional problem in the related issue.
2/ please replicate the steps shown in the screenshots to analyse it in depth. The screenshots were made on an empty install with most basic setups and only concerned plugins.

I appreciate your work in most aspects, but if your image backup system blocks this image replacement process, this makes our task suddenly quite hard to appreciate using it.

Waiting to read the results of your tests and your clever solution.

    Hi Artem,

here is a little reminder to ensure that you are not putting this topic aside. Can you tell me if you did some trials based on my screenshots ?

    Regards.

    Hi Artem,

Can you give some delay when you think to address this issue pls ?

Will this topic be taken seriously please ?

    Sorry for the long wait.

We analyzed this feature and came to the conclusion that we will not add it to our plugin.
Our plugin makes a backup of images before optimization and it does not know about the replaced files when restoring this backup.
