• Another user dropping BackWPup V5 for something that actually works. I played around with WPvivid Backup Free for a couple days. It is a bit more ‘hands on’ for my local wiki backups but seems to do what I want to back-up a local instance of wordpress to a couple of remote locations.

Pro: Easy to add multiple FTP repositories, Managing/deleting backups straightforward, progress bar displays sufficient information. Clean-up feature finds corrupt backups.

The biggest Pro is that It does what I want, but at the expense of having to pay attention that ‘remote’ and the remote location is reviewed/update for each run.

Con: Took a lot of experimenting to find settings to limit number of zip files per backup, backups only identified by date/time (wish I could add location to list of backups), Backup settings default to local rather than last selected.

The biggest Con is I wish I could set up multiple jobs to go to different locations at different times. I will try the Pro license next to see if that is possible.

    Hello @meowornever

Many thanks for your feedback and review!

The pro version allows to set up multiple backup schedules and set different locations and time for each schedule.

Please feel free to let us know if you have any issues using our plugins.

The Pro version is a significant change to the GUI and adds features suitable to my purpose. I am trying out scheduled backups over the next few days. I’m interested to see how it handles the remote location being off-line.

Not a big ‘issue’ but I wished the documentation for parameters that split backup into multiple files included recommendation for parameter values to get single file backups. I increased values here and there based on the tool-tips, but it was rather random to get the effect. Perhaps a table [rows=parameters, columns=scenario], where scenarios include file transfer bandwidth, max file size, etc. Your defaults are good for a pretty restrictive scenario, what about more generous ISPs?

    Hello @meowornever

    Thanks for your feedback.

We are definitely going to consider the scenarios in a future version.

    Hello @meowornever

Just an update on this topic. In the latest versions of WPvivid Backup plugins, we’ve introduced 4 backup performance modes for different hosting types:

Low (Balanced) Use this default setting for minimal server resource usage, but expect longer backup times. Best for shared hosting or limited resources. Backups are split into 200MB chunks.

Mid (Standard) This mode offers a good balance between backup speed and resource usage. It’s suitable for most web hosting environments.

High (Accelerated) This mode uses more server resources to reduce backup time, but is only recommended for dedicated servers. If backups time out or get stuck, consider Mid or Low mode. Backups are split into 4GB chunks.

Custom (Advanced) This mode allows fine-tuning of backup parameters. Incorrect configuration can lead to backup failures. It is recommended to use only with specific guidance from our support team.

You can find the options in the plugin’s Advanced settings.

    All the best,
