Requested Format Error

I successfully set up the plugin with an email OTP verification. When I go to set up cell phone from the WP dashboard, my number is displayed as +1 XXX-XXX-XXXX and clicking the Verify button produces the error “Please match the requested format”. Nothing I do to change that phone number (remove dashes, remove country code, etc.) allows me to proceed from that point. I constantly get “Please match the requested format”.
