How can I resize book covers that I’ve fetched from GoodReads? I haven’t posted a review yet because I’m still trying to figure out what all these options are, but I know that the cover I’m working on looks gigantic in the preview compared to everything else.

Somewhat related: I don’t really use GoodReads synopses. I usually prefer to write my own. So I figure I’ll erase the imported synopsis and save a little memory on my site? I don’t even know if that’s a thing, but it makes sense in my head. Anyway, when I delete the imported synopsis, the cover disappears on the preview, even though it’s still showing on my document toolbar. Is there a way around that?

    Thank you!

    Hello,

The easiest way to resize those book covers would be via CSS styling. If I can see a page on your site with a review created by Recencio I can provide you with the appropriate CSS style to reduce the size of the cover.

Erasing the book synopsis in a review will do nothing to the saving “memory” on your website. It should not affect the cover either.

Could you provide me with more information on what you are referring to as “my document toolbar”?

The settings bar on the right when I’m writing/editing a post that lets me specify whether it’s public or private, when I want to post, permalink, categories, tags, etc.

Maybe it’s the star rating that’s causing the cover to disappear. Let me play with it some more.

It disappears the second time I preview it. Weird. I just fetched the cover, clicked preview, viewed it, clicked preview again without changing anything, and it disappeared.

Try clicking “Save Draft” before previewing the review.

Clicking “Save Draft” made it disappear on the first preview. I am starting with a fresh review each time to make sure there’s nothing crazy getting carried over.

Are you using the new Gutenberg editor?

    Thread Starter captaincurls

    (@captaincurls)

I think so. I just migrated to WordPress maybe a month ago. New posts work off of “blocks” as opposed to the “classic editor” that I see on old posts.

I tried the Gutenberg editor and the classic editor and the book cover is still screwed up. I’m using the Fetch Book Cover extension. I tried posting a review just now, just to see if it was only the preview that didn’t show the cover, and that’s not the problem. The live post shows my alternate cover for when a cover isn’t available. The problem persists whether I specify an alternate generic cover or whether I use the built-in default. The correct cover is showing on the right side of the post editor, whether in classic or Gutenberg editor. I’m going to try to fix it, but it will be up for a few minutes if you want to take a look.

I would still like to be able to resize the cover, but that’s the lesser concern to me right now.

Hello, sorry for the delayed response.

That link you just provided me re-directs to the home page. I am having some real difficulties with navigating your website as I can see that Recencio is installed but I can’t find a page that brings up a “reviews” archive page.

I noticed your URLs has the string “index.php” inside them. Was your URLs like this from Day 1? Normally that path is hidden from the URL via a rewrite rule.

I used pipdig’s Blogger Importer Extended plugin to migrate from Blogger to WordPress. I can see in my permalink settings that I have a custom link structure that includes the index.php. I assume that was from their plugin instructions but I can’t find that now. I remember that the new WordPress permalink had to match the Blogger permalink as closely as possible and I just copied and pasted what they told me to do.

I published the Mrs. Tom Thumb review as a review but it looks bad with the incorrect cover so I converted it to a post and added the cover manually. I can try converting it back to a review now if that’s helpful.

I’m getting a redirect when I click that link too. Weird. Maybe the redirect is occurring because I converted the post type? ….

That’s exactly what it is. When I converted it to a post after posting my update above, the permalink changed to strip out review/ after index.php.

Is it possible for you to create an admin account on your website and send me the login info via email. This appears to be one of those situations where I have to see the WP backend to correctly assist you.
