Been having huge problems with out of memory issues. Have had them before but it did settle down until last Friday.

Site owner went to add a gallery and gets critical error, which is an out of memory problem.

This time the issue is worse and she can not add even a default post without the error.

PHP memory is upped to 2256m and still get error.
Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 65011712) (tried to allocate 20480 bytes) in /home/sites/15b/4/494e956eda/public_html/wp-includes/meta.php on line 1189
There has been a critical error on this website.

Site owner has a lot of content. 1,727 galleries. I did reduce the number of photos from 50k to 20k by emptying her gallery bin but problem persists. Are these figures simply too much, thus making sunshine cart increase stress on resources?
    I have also optimised database

As far as I can remember, nothing on the site was touched or changed since her last upload on 15th July. When she reported the problem I did upgrade Sunshine Cart to latest version in case that helped, it didn’t.

I have a staging site in a sub-domain on the server. It was quite old, but I brought plugins and wordpress up to date. Latest gallery was October. It works perfectly. Only difference, apart from the latest galleries, is that the photos weren’t uploaded

This issue is now desperate as site owner is losing money in not being able to upload.

You can also try disabling some plugins or try a different theme and testing to see if it helps reduce the overall load on the site.

You may also want to consider trying a different web host. I have worked on sites with tens of millions of WordPress posts that load fine on a proper web host. If you are running a site with a lot of data a higher end host may be needed.

    Hi. Thanks for replying.

I tested all the plugins several times! I have just 17 in total, most of which I use on a number of other sites.

The test revealed that if I deactivate at least one plugin (any one it doesn’t matter) a default post can be created, but can not add a gallery. I deactivated as many plugins as I could, leaving just a couple. Was able to create a gallery but not publish it.

I cannot believe that either my usual plugins or the theme (Kadence child) would be detrimental.

Website has been running same plugins, including Sunshine, for a few years on this host. Sometimes had a bit of a hiccup but was always sorted and never anything as bad as this.

Are you able to suggest a host?

The problem is that she has a relatively small budget.

I am making enquiries to the host I have a VPS with (not big enough for this site!), but again it is the cost. They are looking into it, but if you have any that you can recommend that would be great

Because you cannot even publish a gallery tells me the server itself is struggling. Most of the hard “work” Sunshine does is during the image upload process and trying to resize images, especially if uploading many very large images. During the Publish process, it is just saving basic gallery settings data which happens just like when publishing a blog post.

Maybe I’m crossing a line here, but if the site has 1727 galleries it should be making enough in sales to pay for a decent web host which apparently is absolutely vital to the success of their business.

I personally use SiteGround and WP Engine and have a test Sunshine sites there. I also hear wonderful things about Cloudways but have not personally used them.

    Thanks for that.

Yeah, unfortunately the profit margin is very small, no way can afford those.

HUH! Another problem just seen. In reports…

That is a minor code notice, not a major bug. I will look into it but it is not the cause of any of the issues you are seeing.
