Responsive Table and Bookmarks
-
Dear Tobias,
I am using your TablePress and also the Responsive TablePress.
To my questions:1. Is it possible to set bookmarks in tables?
2. The responsive Tables are perfect, but they are not working with the Opera-Browser on mobile phones. One more, I asked my collegues to work with the responsive tables and non of them understood that they have to swipe to get to the other content of the table. Is there are possibility to include a scroll bar or something else which makes it visable that there is more content? Here my website: balticnet-plasmatec.netzwerkstelle.de
Thank you so much in advance

Hi Katherina,
thanks for your question, and sorry for the trouble.
1. Can you elaborate what you mean with bookmarks in tables?
2. I’m not sure what’s going on there. I’m not aware of any code that would not run in Opera in the Responsive Tables CSS code, but I haven’t done that much testing in Opera either, and I don’t have it on my phone at the moment 🙁
The behavior with the scrollbar depends on the operating system of the phone. From what I know, Android and iOS only show it during the actual scrolling, but hide it when the page is at rest. I haven’t seen a way to change this, unfortunately. It might therefore be the best to maybe add a small note above the table, instructing the visitor that there is scrolling.Regards,
TobiasHi Tobias,
Thank you for answering. I will try to explain what I mean with the bookmarks (I mean Ankerpunkte in German). I have on this site: http://balticnet-plasmatec.netzwerkstelle.de/applications/
application industries. Here the user should click on one of the applications e.g. Engine Building Industry and now it should open a new window to this site: http://balticnet-plasmatec.netzwerkstelle.de/search-by-application-industries/ but not at the beginning of the site but at the Engine Building Industry part. Meaning jumping directly to the application. I hope you could understand what I mean. Sorry for the difficult explaination.Regards,
Katherina
Hi Katherina,
this pretty much works already, it’s just made a little difficult by the fact that some values of the
<a name="...">links in the table have spaces in them.
You do however have the frame work in place: On the page http://balticnet-plasmatec.netzwerkstelle.de/applications/
just use the URL
ttp://balticnet-plasmatec.netzwerkstelle.de/search-by-application-industries/#Engine Building Industry
instead of
http://balticnet-plasmatec.netzwerkstelle.de/search-by-application-industries/#Engine(Note that this will only work with book marks that are shown on the first page of the table, if pagination is used.)
Regards,
TobiasHi Tobias,
one more question. It is possible to enlarge the heigts of the cells so that very long names in a cell go to the next line (automatic word wrapping). Like you can see here: http://balticnet-plasmatec.netzwerkstelle.de/universities-research-institutes/
Unfortunatly I can not shorten the names.Thank you in advance.

Hi,
not directly 🙁 You could therefore maybe try a slightly different approach of Responsiveness: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/responsive-tables-scroll-only?replies=6#post-5511954
That basically also adds horizontal scrolling, but without the flipping of the table. And the data is left as-is, i.e. with line breaks in the cells.
Regards,
TobiasHi,
all the book marks are working now. Thank you so much for this. Regarding the Responsiveness I will try the link you sent.
Thank you so much.

KatherinaHi,
great! Good to hear that this helped!
Best wishes,
TobiasHi,
So now I am using the “Horizontal Scrolling” for the tables and not the responsive tables. Everything works perfect now. Just one thing is it possible that the tables are not working with the Opera browser for mobile phones? There you can not swipe the table.
Best wishes
KatherinaHi Katherina,
so the new approach is also not working on Opera? I can then only assume that this is maybe an Opera issue 🙁
Regards,
TobiasHi Tobias,
Yes the new approach does not work on Opera. But hopefully not so many people using Opera with their mobile phone.
Thanks,
Katherina
Hi,
yes, I think that number is pretty low, indeed.
Best wishes,
Tobias
