• Self hosted blog-
Had some problems and recently deleted and reinstalled blog.
Before I did so I downloaded my WP blog folder using FTP app.
I would like to restore original content- specifically posts, and pages.
I’ve searched internet and what I can find isn’t working-
I’ve uploaded the wp-content folder but if I try to replace the new wp-config.php file the site becomes non functional. Also can’t find original htaccess file which if I understand correctly is also needed.

Is there a way to restore my content or must I go back to square one and do it all manually? That would be tragic.

    Thank you for any advice!

The blog I need help with is http://www.officialicemen.com

  • Did you save a backup copy of your old database?

I have the old blog folder which I downloaded to my computer before uninstall and reinstall so that was what I hoped would be my backup. What files are needed?
I use ftp to upload/download content.

You need a database backup file.

I’m sorry to be so naive but what exactly would the database file be called?
    Where would it be located?
    Thank you.

It varies. It might be a .zip file or a .sgl file. It is not normally present in any of your WordPress folders. You have to backup the database & create this file yourself one way or another. Without that backup, or access to the old database, you have lost all of your content.

Damn, sounds like I’m out of luck.
I guess I’ll have to manually repost each page and post. At least I have the content folder. Unfortunately I suppose in this case all the post links/permalinks will be new.

For future reference- how do I create a valid backup?
