• I don’t know where exactly to ask this question, so I will try here.

I made a terrible mistake. I wanted to migrate my site and forgot to export and backup the database. I naively thought it’s enough to copy and move the public folder (/home/user-name/).

Old user is deleted, and the database is gone with it. I am left with 12GB folder, which is practically useless because the database is gone.

I am not very skilled with this so I was wondering is there any way I can get my database back, from the public folder I have?

    Thanks for every advice!

  • The database holds your content. Unless you made a backup of the database, the public folder won’t do you any good other then having some of the resources (images and files you uploaded) to rebuild your site from scratch.

The database *is* the content in WordPress (excluding the images or files you uploaded).

I’m sorry you had to learn this the hard way.

You can check with your hosting service and see if they have a backup you can use to restore from – but otherwise, you would need to rewrite your content from scratch.
