Restoration of the database file after loading the other zips fails with a “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.” No email was received as I am using a GCP marketplace WordPress image. This is a migration, not a basic like-version to like-version restore.

The two factors here are the original backup was an older version of WordPress that was upgraded to 6.5.5. The version of PhP on the original was 7.0x from circa 2019. The destination was WordPress 6.5.5, but PhP was 8.X. The database restoration dialog completes successfully however access to the wp-admin page shows this error. Restarting does not fix it.

I selected to download the log of the update however nothing happened. If this is a common problem I’d appreciate any ideas.

  • Hi there,

Can you access the site using (S)FTP and provide a copy of the restoration log?
You can find the logs in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory.

It’s also a good idea to review your php error log for any references to the error.

    Best regards,

    Nick
