Hey there,

I’ve been developing a site in a sandbox and it’s ready to go live. I have backups through updraftplus of the sandbox – can I use those backups to “restore” the site on the live domain?

Yes – since the backup is basically a dump of files + database, creating your live site from the backup dump of your development copy results in the same thing as copying from your development copy.

Will there be issues with database references being broken because all links now point to an old install? Or is there a way to restore into the new install inside your plugin?

If the site URL has changed, then use something like WordShell (http://wordshell.net) or searchreplacedb2.php (http://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/) to update the database with the new URL.
