Restoring backup from other folder issue

    When I originally set up my wordpress site on the server, I had to put it up on the back end of an existing site so I left it in the wordpress folder. Of course that meant to access it I would have to go to sitename.com/wordpress/

    Everything worked just fine until time to set it up to replace the existing site. I made a backup of the database using WP-db-backup and emailed it to myself.

    I wiped out my database, dumped all the content and reinstalled wordpress, all my plug-ins, themes, etc. in the main httpdocs folder. I grabbed a copy of the PHPMyAdmin plug-in and imported the database backup and that’s when everything went south.

    Now everything is trying to link to the /wordpress/ version. Is there a way I can fix this so that it doesn’t assume all the files are still in /wordpress/? Thanks!

    Just so everyone knows, anytime I try to log in now it gives me a 404 error since it’s trying to find something in /wordpress/ folder.

    Redefine your home and site url’s manually, then update them properly in the dashboard settings.

    define('WP_HOME','http://sitename.com');
define('WP_SITEURL','http://sitename.com');

    Please forgive my ignorance, but where are the WP_HOME and WP_SITEURL located?

    when I change them, do I set them for sitename.com/wordpress/ ?

    Sorry, place them in your wp-config file.

    wp_siteurl is where your wordpress files reside. wp_home is the address your visitors will use to access the site. Update them according to your setup.

    Would I need to make any changes to my backup file? My backup file is pointing to (sitename.com/wordpress/) right now. I suppose it would probably make sense just to change my wp-config and everything for that, but is there something I need to leave out of my /wordpress/ folder to redirect things that way?

    If you add those definitions to the wp-config file, that takes precedence over what’s stored in the database. You can either leave them there, or put them in long enough so that you can update the database through the Dashboards -> Settings -> General menu.

    I don’t completely understand how your directories are setup, so the above advice is the best I can do for ya.

    If your site files are in the root directory, sitename.com will satisfy both fields. If the files are at sitename.com/wordpress then siteurl needs the wordpress subdirectory.
