Restrict access to post type by default

Is there a way to set a specific custom post type to be restricted to a specific user role?

Ex. I have a post type called meeting minutes which I want to only be visible to logged in users, all of which have the custom user role “member”.

I could do this by checking “member” under “Limit access to the content to users of the selected roles.” on each post but that seems prone to someone forgetting to check that box.

Seems like there would be a way to set that as checked by default for the CPT (at least new posts using that CPT), or globally?
